New Professional Award

The purpose of the SCASL New Professional Award is to recognize certified school librarians who have made an outstanding contribution to school libraries in South Carolina specifically during the early years of their careers by showing significant potential and documented impact on school library programs and communities. Exemplary library programs are those defined as reflecting the themes of collaboration, leadership, and technology integration as outlined in National School Library Standards for Learners. Qualities of exemplary programs include outstanding and effective support of student learning through well-rounded, innovative, and comprehensive program administration; effective collaborative partnerships with teachers in both teaching and learning; and information access.

Nominees should be working in their second through fourth years of school librarianship, all in South Carolina public and private school libraries. Recipients may win this award once and may not receive the New Professional Award and the School Librarian of the Year award in consecutive years. Nominees should have earned the Master’s in Library and Information Science degree and be current SCASL members.
