New Professional AwardThe purpose of the SCASL New Professional Award is to recognize certified school librarians who have made an outstanding contribution to school libraries in South Carolina specifically during the early years of their careers by showing significant potential and documented impact on school library programs and communities. Exemplary library programs are those defined as reflecting the themes of collaboration, leadership, and technology integration as outlined in National School Library Standards for Learners. Qualities of exemplary programs include outstanding and effective support of student learning through well-rounded, innovative, and comprehensive program administration; effective collaborative partnerships with teachers in both teaching and learning; and information access. Nominees should be working in their second through fourth years of school librarianship, all in South Carolina public and private school libraries. Recipients may win this award once and may not receive the New Professional Award and the School Librarian of the Year award in consecutive years. Nominees should have earned the Master’s in Library and Information Science degree and be current SCASL members. Application: Copy the table below and complete in Google Docs. Include the nominee's name in the title of the doc. Email completed application link to [email protected] by the first Friday in December. Be sure to make the link viewable to all users. No late submissions will be accepted. Letter of support required: Select a supervisor or administrator who has direct knowledge of the nominee’s early outstanding contributions to the school librarian profession. The supervisor/administrator should submit a letter of recommendation to [email protected] by the first Friday of December. Late submissions will not be considered.
