Student Media Creation Contest

Grade Categories:

  • Grades PreK–2                            
  • Grades 3-5
  • Grades 6-8
  • Grades 9-12

Prizes:

The following student prizes may be awarded for each grade category:

  • 1st place video $100
  • 2nd place video $ 50

Prizes for group entries will be divided among the group participants.

The library media center of the first place winners in each grade category will receive a Playaway.
(title to be selected by the media specialist.)

Contest Rules and Information:

  • All entries must represent the theme I Love My Library Media Center!
  • Student entries must be produced by students only from the idea to the finished product. 
    Media specialists and teachers may offer instruction and supervision, but the actual work must be done by students only.
  • A maximum of one entry per applicant will be accepted for the contest. 
  • All entries must:
      • Be original work
      • Be submitted by mail with the official application form
      • Be submitted with the official video storyboard form
      • Be mailed to:  South Carolina Association of School Librarians / P.O. Box 2442 / Columbia SC 29202  ATT: Video Contest
      • Be postmarked by February 28, 2009.
  • All video entries:
      • Must be submitted on CD or DVD.  Each entry must be submitted separately.  Multiple entries on the same disc will be disqualified.
      • Must be accessible on computers operating Windows XP.
      • Must be in following formats:  .wmv  .avi   .asf    .flv   .mov 
      • Must consist of an original production that includes both a video and an audio track.
      • Must have been produced since August 2008.
      • Must show credit for any copyrighted material within the production including video clips, animation clips, music, images, etc.
      • May be created  using a variety of  software as long as the final product is in an approved format.
      • Have the entrant’s name, grade level, and school clearly written on the CD or DVD.
      • The completed print official application form must be submitted  in the envelope with the CD or DVD containing the video entry.
      • The completed video storyboard form must be submitted in the envelope with the CD or DVD containing the video entry.
  • Schools are encouraged to have some type of school-wide contest or presentation to determine suitable entries for the state-wide competition.
  • Permission must be granted by the parents or guardians to use the student’s name in judging and publicizing the entry
  • Permission must be granted by the parents or guardians for use of the entry in SCASL publications, promotions, and products.
  • SCASL and appointed judges reserve the right to eliminate entries that, for any reason, misrepresent the rules or are deemed not suitable.
  • Entries will not be returned.
  • All decisions are final.

Timeline:

  • Entries must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2009, and mailed to SCASL/ P.O. Box 2442 / Columbia SC 29202 ATT: Video Contest
  • Winners will be announced during the 2009 SCASL READ-IN, April 16, 2009.
  • All entries may be used by SCASL in promotions, publications, and projects.
